Pointing

Pointing for anyone who is unaware, is the joints made between typically two brick courses or conjoining bricks or stone, materials and layers. Its the cement that hardens into the glue and fabric of the building itself. Its not just the aesthetic, it's literally the glue that holds the building blocks (literally) in place.

It naturally wears down and decays over time due to a multitude of reasons and some of which are, weathering, poor installation, superficial pointing, building amendments, building movement and poor post work finish, to name just a few.

There are approximately 8 different mortar joint (pointing finishes) that can be applied as well as techniques and designs which can further add aesthetics to your property accordingly. Generally, in the UK we have 3 typical finishes and some opt to have the joint cut in depth and not completely filled to further add a different and standout appearance.

Finally, having the pointing coloured is another way of boosting the final finish accordingly.
